Membership in the DAR depends upon reliable proof of descendancy from a patriot of the American Revolution. The patriot can be either an established patriot (who can be found in the DAR Patriot Index) or a new patriot (whose qualifying service must be proven.)
How to get started
One of the first things you can do to get started on your genealogy is to gather as many official documents as possible that prove your line, especially for recent generations. Some types of documents include birth certificates, death certificates, and marriage certificates. Also, start with yourself and work your way back to a patriot.
